4 Titles 4 Queensland
Queensland players dominated the first event of the 2009 National Junior Series.

Queenslanders started favourite in 4 events and won all 4. However the efforts of our athletes in the other 4 events was very encouraging.

AIS scholarship holders Jake Alexander and Zoe Petrovansky dominated the 19YAG with Alexander winning the all Queensland final 3-1 against Sunil Seth and Petrovansky shutting out Victoria's Sarah Cardwell 3-0.

Julius Krauss completed the Queensland trifecta winning the play off for 3rd against SA's Ben Werchon 3-2.

Queensland superstars Sam Fife and Dijo Sexton completely dominated their events winning 3-0 against Wes Cusick (NSW) and Sharmaine Mills (NT).

The surprise packet for Queensland was the performance of Emerald's John Peacey in the 15YAG Boys Final. Peacey was flying the hopes of the Central Region and went down narrowly 11-9 in the 5th against #1 seed Kane Koteka from WA.

In the girls event Emily Bunting from WA was too good for Queensland's Bethany Brazier winning 3-0 and giving WA their second title in the age group.

Brisbane's Lakeesha Rarere had a great tournament beating all the Australian contenders but fell just short of winning the event when she played Kiwi sensation Abbie Palmer in the final. Despite a valiant effort Rarere went down in 3.

Likewise in the Boys final Atherton's Ivan Jensen had a great event to reach the final but was outplayed by NSW's Rohan Toole 3-0.

The second event gets underway on Thursday and with some athletes going home it will open the event up for different clashes and some new winners.
